||Shrewsbury 3-3 Old Wulfs
After an impressive win against Lichfield, Old Wulfs were hoping for much of the same against Shrewsbury. Old Wulfs made a decent start and should have been awarded a flick after Birch was rudely up ended by the keeper. Nothing given. Shrewsbury passed the ball around well and when they did manage to break the Old Wulfs defence, Colin dealt with it. Shrewsbury did eventually take the lead, bypassing Colin. This seemed to galvanise Old Wulfs and Wilson started things rolling by dodging a number of bad challenges and putting the ball top corner. 1-1 at half time.
The second half was a tale of woe. Old Wulfs began superbly when Birch scored with his trademark technique; slotting the ball in from an acute angle on the reverse. Shrewsbury should have been a man down after Birch was running clean through on goal and was hacked down. Short given but no further punishment. Wilson was then assaulted by the Shrewsbury keeper in the D, no card again but short given. The resulting short was passed out to Wilson who took his time, passed the ball to Birchy past the on rushing keeper and Birch finished into an unguarded net. (Footage of this goal can be found on the Old Wulfs Facebook and Twitter accounts.) 3-1. Now the tale of woe... Brown made a brilliant flat stick challenge, a Shrewsbury player stick blocked ... Short corner given for apparent back stick. Shrewsbury scored from the short corner, 3-2. Into the final minutes, Birch had the ball in the Shrewsbury D and was stick challenged on numerous occasions. Nothing given, despite the sound of carbon fibre striking carbon fibre. Shrewsbury then began a counter attack and in the build up, a Shrewsbury player lifted the ball a number of inches off the ground. The ball was played through and Shrewsbury equalised. Umpires allowed the lifting of the ball, apparently due to no one being within a fingers length of the player. Cue bemusement and frustration from Old Wulfs! The game finished 3-3 with points dropped, but all in all, a better performance.
