After last Saturday’s important win against Redditch the 2s travelled to promotion chasing Stone with a four point cushion between us and the relegation zone. We started brightly, within the first fifteen minutes Craddock was denied by a sliding save from the Stone keeper and a Roberts cross was brilliantly blocked with two men waiting to tap home at the far post. Our pressure eventually paid off midway through the half when Cooper deflected a cross into the roof of the net, but we found ourselves 2-1 down by half time after a Stone short corner then a quick breakaway a few minutes later.
The message at half time was clear, to keep playing as well as we had been but to put away our chances. The team performance was superb throughout; Thompson was unplayable at the back again, Craddock showed how quickly he is adapting to this level with an impressive game and Hemmings and Satchwell combined down the right to create several chances. Unfortunately, we still found it difficult to convert these chances, wasting several short corners and forcing the Stone keeper into another couple of good saves. Finally, with ten minutes to go, Hemmings decided that enough was enough, arrived unexpectedly at a short corner and said one word, ‘mine’. No one argued. This short was slipped to Tibble on the penalty spot and his slap into the corner allowed Wulfs to breathe a huge sigh of relief. We continued to push forward, determined to win the game, and another shortcorner was won with a few minutes left. This time Hemmings beat the runner, took the ball to a few yards out and picked his spot. 3-2. A fantastic performance and a well deserved three points.
