A re-arranged game due to weather problems saw OW5 take on Leek6 on Sunday lunchtime with stand-in captain Ray Jeff in charge of the squad. Leek had a number of fast, young players with two in particular good in both their movement off the ball and in possession. OW needed to concentrate on their organisation and marking to keep Leek at bay, but took the lead when Phil Carless was quick to pounce on a mistake by the Leek keeper and score into an empty net. Leek than equalised with a good move that saw them with an unmarked player and smart finish. Leek scored a second when a misunderstanding in the OW defence presented a straightforward finish to one of their forwards, but OW came back to equalise with a goal from Tom Maundrell before half time; 2 - 2 at the break. Early in the second half, with OW losing their concentration, Leek swept through with 3 v 1 on keeper Steve Rowland who had no chance as they took the lead 3-2. OW recovered their composure and won a short corner from which Nic Anderson scored with a direct shot. Play moved from end to end with both teams having chances. OW won another short corner, and the strike from Nic Anderson was deftly swept into the Leek goal by Ricky Lally. OW then had to concentrate to keep Leek at bay for the remainder of the game to record a 4-3 win. Man of the match to Nic Anderson - for his short corner strikes and for his tireless tackling in midfield that won possession on numerous occasions.
