5ths travelled deep into the countryside for their game against Stone 4ths and began with the customary introductions, which took longer than usual as we had a squad of 14. Expecting Stone to be a strong side we set up to control the middle of the pitch, and for most of the game this was well implemented and successful as we enjoyed the lion share of possession. Stone's defence was resolute and we struggled to make the final telling connection in the last quarter of the pitch. Eventually the pace and strength shown throughout by James Fisher resulted in a goal - with a telling assist from Paul Johnson; 1 - 0 at half time. Stone were relying on the good tackling and long clearances from their defence, one of which led to a defensive error that enabled Stone to get back on terms and for a few minutes we lost the discipline of the formation and could have conceded again. Once order was restored we continued to press and created several opportunities to score that we could not convert. Simon Heron got his reward for his high work rate and pace when he converted a chance to put us 2 - 1 in front, and we then held our positional discipline and controlled the game to see that as the final result. Another successful game for youngsters Paul Johnson and Josh Wilson; we can go into next weeks game against league leaders Lichfield 6 with raised confidence.
