5ths suffered a frustrating defeat, conceding a second goal in the last minutes of a game in which they had enjoyed plenty of possession. Lichfield scored an early goal after an attempted defensive clearance found an unmarked player at the top of the circle; his shot deflected in off the post. Old Wulfs then pressed Lichfield and won a penalty corner; from Paul Fisher's initial shot, Mike Savage coolly despatched the rebound from the keeper's pads into the net - all even. Lichfield's skillful youngsters always threatened and were excellent at closing down and catching players in possession; Old Wulfs failed to capitalise on possession, sometimes taking too long to move the ball, sometimes misdirecting distribution. Barrie Sheldon was left too isolated at the front, having to take on multiple defenders to retain the ball while waiting for team-mates to catch up with play. Lichfield's winning goal came from a free hit that eluded defenders and found a forward stretching to get the final touch. A good first game from James Fisher; lots of work from Simon Heron; good holding play from Barrie Sheldon; Paul Fisher and Andy Cooper (Snr) successful in defensive midfield. If we can improve our play when in possession success will come.
