Old Wulfrunians 5 – 1 Telford
Last time Old Wulfs played Telford, they narrowly lost 5-4 in a close game, where a bare 11 Old Wulfs pushed a Telford squad of 16 all the way.
Just before the match began the heavens decided to open and give the pitch and all the players a watering, I say all… Birch, Abalrd and Ben stayed on the pitch while the rest of the team ran to their bags to get items of clothing to protect themselves from the harsh British summer conditions.
Once the game got under way Old Wulfs went immediately on the front foot, pressing high up the pitch and forcing the Telford players to play the ball back. Old Wulfs won an early short corner and Birch slotted it into the bottom left hand corner 1-0 to Old Wulfs. Old Wulfs won another short corner not long after due to some good build up play from Ablard Will and Birch. This time the ball was sent back to Ablard to deflect in for 2-0. Despite Old Wulfs dominance, Telford won a fortunate short comer when the ball struck Ablard’s hand in the Dee and the umpire judged it to be a foot. Telford scored the resulting short corner with a bouncing flick which pitched over Luke’s kicker and went in. That was Telford’s only shot on target in the first half. 2-1 at half time.
The second half continued with Old Wulfs on the press and Owen Shave increased Old Wulfs hold on the game with a reverse shot. The bobble deceiving the keeper for 3-1. Birch got Old Wulfs fourth of the game, which George pass through on goal was deflected in through the keeper’s legs by Birch. Ben Hart finished the scoring when Birch’s initial shot hit the first runners foot on a short corner and Ben was first to the rebound and slotted it in. 5-1 the final score.
Old Wulfs dominated from start to finish and limited Telford to very few chances. It is Old Wulfs first win of summer league and was well deserved.
