Ludlow 4 – 5 Old Wulfrunians

Following the bitter disappointment of the previous game Old Wulfs looked to put things right against Ludlow. With both teams tired after the first game the game started slow and disjointed with both teams giving away possession. Ludlow too the lead however from a penalty corner, Colin saved the initial shot, however he could do nothing about the rebound. Roberts levelled things up shortly after, Roberts dispossessing a Ludlow defender and placing it in the far corner of the goal. Ludlow scored a break away goal as Old Wulfs pressed them looking for their second goal. Old Wulfs had a goal disallowed for the injection apparently being lifted; this is despite both teams setting up to restart and Ludlow stating they believed it was a goal. Despite the set back Ablard scored to put the score at 2-2 following a neatly taken short corner. And Ryan finally put Old Wulfs in front for the first time in the game with a cool and composed finish. 3-2 at half time.

The second half was much scrappier than the first, with Ludlow quickly having a player sent off for persistent back chat; this was after Griff had put Old Wulfs 4-2 up. Tiredness started to get the better of Old Wulfs and Ludlow pulled it back to 4-4 with neatly taken short corners. However Old Wulfs were not to be deterred and immediately regained the lead when Ryan held the ball up squared to Birch and he put the ball into the far corner leaving the keeper helpless. Late on Griff was carded for a late stick challenge (the lack of sleep after travelling to Saudi Arabia most likely the cause) and Birch also green carded for a robust shoulder to shoulder challenge. There was to be more drama after the final whistle as the umpires conferred and awarded Ludlow a penalty stroke, Mintern’s late clearance off the line was deemed to have struck his body. The Ludlow forward scored the stroke however rather pushing the ball he slapped it and the gaols was disallowed. 5-4 Win for Old Wulfs
