Old Wulfs 6-4 Adams Grammar
The final match before the Christmas interval against a young fresh faced Adams side. After the disappointed thumping provided by Telford in the previous game it was essential that Old Wulfs start the game well. Straight from the pushback Old Wulfs pressed and forced errors from their opposition and quickly won a short corner. Dave Ward placed it in the top left hand corner as the keeper came sliding out. Almost immediately after that Ryan placed in Birch who rounded the keeper and finished to make it 2-0. A succession of short corners saw Old Wulfs go 4-0 up. Dave Ward twice playing the ball back to Birch to deflect in at the near post. Adams came back and grabbed a couple back from short corners, a reminder that Old Wulfs had not got the game won yet.
Second half and Old Wulfs began the half slowly conceding another to make it 4-3. Ryan should have had his second of the night, however it was adjudged to have a “clip shot” rather than a push and was disallowed. Undeterred Old Wulfs pressed for more goals and Birch added goals number 5 and 6. Adams grabbed a late slightly controversial goal, which was none to dissimilar to the goal Ryan had disallowed. However the umpires spoke and the goal was awarded. Adams attempted a late rally but the Old Wulfs defence stayed strong. Final Score 6-4. Two wins and a draw was enough for Old Wulfs to progress into the Top group after Christmas where they will face tough opposition in Telford, North Staffs and Ludlow.
