Not sure quite how this happened really…
This was a pretty even match, despite the apparent disparity of the score line. Possession was equally divided with a relatively youthful Wednesbury side trying to outwit their (on average) “slightly” older counterparts. The game was effectively decided during an 8-10 minute period near the end of the first half where Wednesbury, benefitting from a combination of our inability to clear our lines and some fortuitous bobbles/bounces, managed to score three goals off almost successive attacks.
The second half was much the same as the first in terms of play and possession with honours even, Barrie Sheldon pulling one back for us, only for Wednesbury to add another almost immediately to their tally for the day.
Wednesbury deserved to win because they clearly wanted the win more than we did and if they were lucky, they worked hard to make their own luck – but 4-1 still smarts a little.
