Match Report

The game started with a fairly quick tempo with neither team really controlling the play, passes going astray and the wrong ball being played. But it was Barford who struck first with a low strike into the bottom corner. It didn't take long for Old Wulfs to equalise after some good play down the left, which came about through quick passing made its way to Mark to level things up. Old Wulfs should have been 2-1 quickly after true restart. The midfield duo of Ablard and Griff harassed the Barford midfielders into mistakes and after winning the ball-released mark who squared the ball for Gray who missed a tap in at the back post. The game went into a bit of scrappy patch as some decisions in the game required umpire clarification, but Old Wulfs got their second goal when Gray slotted home. Ablard made it 3-1 when Tutton who dominated the left hand side squared to top D for Birch to play in Ablard for a shot which someone squirmed in under the keeper. Barford immediately hit back and through a small bit of fortune got their second to make it 3-2. The shot initially saved by Quninny bounced around off his pads and in to the goal. Tutton who was having a good half got his goal just before half time, after Sam had won the ball back and played in Gray who assisted Tutton. Barford's 3rd and final goal came when a shot wrong footed Quinny and rolled into the far corner. Half time 4-3 to Old Wulfs.

The second half was a much better performance, where Old Wulfs retained the possession and passed it round the back and transferred the ball. The goal of the game was Sam Aldersley's first for the first team. The ball started at the back being passed around and within 4 passes the ball was in the back of the net. Ward transferred Dave C who played it down the line to Tutton and then on to Mark who looked up saw Sam running back post, put it across at pace for a text book deflection at the back post 5-3. This goal set the tone for the half and Mark and Sam's second goals quickly followed to put the game out of reach for Barford at 7-3. Sam could have had a hatrick as his 3rd goal was disallowed as he umpire had already blown for a short corner. The Captain Birch then got himself green carded and under new rules 2 minutes off the pitch. Sam filled in at right back until the captain returned. Barford rarely threatened primarily down to the hard work of the Ablard and Griff. Mark rounded off the scoring with an oddly taken goal, the keeper saved Sam's effort and Mark looped a reverse stick shot up and over the keeper as he lay on the floor. Final score Barford 3 - 8 Old Wulfs

Man of the match this week is Sam for his tireless work upfront and his well-taken goals. Game next week is against Finchfield at Home.
